Before doing anything in the way of cOD-

-structing a breakwater on Kellett Bank, it will be proper to

make current observations, and give the project full considera-

-tion ((18 and 23)).

A great deal of trouble bas been involved in

trying to verify, and trace the genesis of, certain scraps of

information that are in existence, on the subject of relative

levels, such information not having been fully recorded when it

was obtained. I have pt this report back with the intention of

adding to it the results of my investigations; so as to put the

information fully on record, for easy reference when the dredging

question comes up again; but l find that my notes run to too

great a length to be put into intelligible shape in a limited

time, and scre points have not yet been verified to my satisfac-

-tion. I therefore submit the foregoing now, and will forward the

information indicated, as appendices, ister.
